Take a Risk – it’s worth it!

Last week on two occasions I decided to take a risk and yay they really paid off!

A friend has recently recommended a book on business planning – “The Right Brain Business Plan” by Jennifer Lee.  http://www.rightbrainbusinessplan.com/ Thankfully not the usual kind of business book!

It has been amazing and my creative juices are well and truly sparked. I heard that Jenn runs a 10 day live video summit in February and March with some fascinating speakers each day. And this is the 3rd year. Same time, every day for 10 days.  I was delighted when these sessions coincided with 6pm UK time as they were streamed live from the West Coast of America.

Last week she announced a competition to win a prize.  I did the usual – deliberated then hummed and hawed and thought “What the heck?”

However, I needed to take myself off for a walk to think about some of the answers to the questions she had posed. Came back and filled in the form.

But then found myself at 9.30pm in a complete meltdown. What would really help her make her decision was a YouTube video!?! Not quite sure of the technology or how I was going to make it work and really panicky about my causal dressed down look on camera. Nevertheless, I took out my ipad and hit the video camera record button. Absolutely could not listen to it back but managed to add it to my application.  The good news – not too long to wait, the results would be announced tomorrow.

And guess what? I won, announced live to over 400 people and then emailed out afterwards with my web site details and the (OMG) YOUTube video with it! (Cringe!)

I could have not bothered, I could have done it without the video but I had nothing to lose and something to gain. On reflection stepping out of my comfort zone was so worth it!  The application made me think about some business things I want to do and how I might put them into action.  If I had thought how good the others would be or the number of entries she would receive then I would never have done it.

Lesson leant – there are many wonderful things waiting for us but we need to stretch out and reach them. And believe that we deserve them!

What would you go for if you knew it was a risk?  Answers on a postcard, please!
